VINE GROWTH CYCLE-LEAF GROWTH

VINE GROWTH CYCLE-LEAF GROWTH

abr 20, 2018

It took a bit long this year as the snow still remains at the peaks of our mountains but it seems spring is now more noticeable.

After bud break, now we can say that the leaf growth has started, a crucial moment in the vegetative cycle of the grapevine. The first leaves start to develop; these are the most important organs of the vine as they transform brute sap into elaborated and they carry out the plant vital functions such as breathing and photosynthesis.

In the leaves, with oxygen, water and the sunlight captured by a substance called chlorophyll, will be performed several processes which will form the acids and sugar molecules, that will determine the taste of the grapes that the vine will produce and therefore the taste of the wine elaborated from those grapes.

We find ourselves facing, no doubt,  a decisive step in the grapevine lifecycle.
