VINEYARDS - THE PRUNING
Although every work carried out throughout the year at the vineyards is important, the pruning is a vital one, as with it we will define the vine structure and its production for the next year coming.
The grapevine is pruned to limit yield and therefore obtain higher quality grapes and also to control its growth to prolong its life; always trying to achieve a vegetative-productive balance.
This practice involves the manual removal of canes that will become shoots and it is a very complicated and precise work, where the experience of who is performing it is crucial.
The timing of pruning will depend on the type of vine plant and grape variety and it must be done during the dormant season when the vines rest and the sap descend to the trunk of the plant, in the winter months.
