GOLD MEDAL AT THE 2026 ECOVINO AWARDS
May brings us some of the most anticipated and rewarding news of the year for the entire Fincas de Azabache team. Our firm commitment to organic viticulture and respect for our land has been backed by the industry's benchmark competition: we have been awarded the Gold Medal at the 2026 Ecovino Awards.
This prestigious recognition, granted at the XVII International Organic Wine Contest, directly rewards the quality of our Azabache Organic Wine—a red wine born in Aldeanueva de Ebro with the purpose of reflecting the tipicity of Rioja Oriental through 100% sustainable practices.
2026 Ecovino Awards: The Value of a Great Organic Rioja Wine
The Ecovino Awards have established themselves as the most important organic wine competition in Spain. It serves as a meeting point where experts and tasters evaluate the technical excellence of projects that place environmental care at the heart of their strategy.
For us, winning this gold medal goes far beyond displaying a new seal on the bottle; it is confirmation that our production model works. The jury highlighted the purity, balance, and magnificent fruit expression of our wine. This award proves that top-tier winemaking standards in the cellar and absolute respect for nature's rhythms are not only compatible, but result in premium high-end wines capable of competing and standing out in the most demanding international markets.
The Perfect Setting: May in Our Estates
This international accolade arrives at a beautiful moment in the vine's vegetative cycle. During this month of May, the vineyard pushes forward with strength, and the landscape of Rioja Oriental dresses itself in a brilliant green mantle that reflects the vitality of spring.
While we celebrate this success, our vineyard team accompanies this natural development with precision viticulture tasks, carrying out the traditional green pruning, locally known as espergura. This meticulous, manual work ensures that the vines grow balanced, well-ventilated, and naturally concentrated all their energy without the need to resort to synthetic chemical products. This is how we prepare the ground for future organic vintages.
This Gold Medal at Ecovino 2026 is, in reality, a recognition of the daily effort of our vine growers—the true guardians of nature at our winery.
