Nowadays, the care and perfection the winemaking process is carried out with, needs of an oenologist as the eminently technical figure and por this reason today Bachelor´s degrees in Oenology are required to perform this job.
The oenologist must master the different technical subjects that will be covered during the wine elaboration process; from agricultural knowledge, organic chemistry or genetics to knowledge about the commercialisation of the final product.
The oenologist tasks at the winery are diverse: election of the elaboration processes, fermentation and bottling monitoring, comply with all sanitary standards, supervision of laboratory analyses and quality control.
