WHAT TYPE OF WINE DO WE DRINK?
The latest report from MAPAMA (the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food) corresponding to 2017 , year we´ve just left behind, indicates that Spaniards drank less quantity of wine bottles but we looked for higher-priced ones.
In Spain the volume of expenditure in Designation of Origen wines in our homes was of a 57%, although this only represents a 37% of the total volume, while the consumption of standard wines represents a 23% what means a 49% of the total volume, what shows that we drink less wine although of a higher quality.
Even with this lower wine global consumption, as we talk of choosing high quality wines and at higher prices, allows to maintain a stable turnover level.
It is also notable and curious the fact, extracted from this report, that the “riojanos” are the Spaniards that drink less Designation of Origen wines (less than half of the median) in the region that produces one of the most worldwide well-known D.O. qualification.
Let´s change the statistics and let´s enjoy more of the good of what we have in La Rioja, our D.O.Ca Wines
