We sum up after the harvest 2023 at Viñedos de Aldeanueva S.Coop and Fincas de Azabache winery.

This year we started on the 10th of August with the white grapes: Tempranillo, Viura and Verdejo. They were harvested continuously during a short period of 15 days and with excellent quality. Firstly Tempranillo and Viura were picked and then, the Verdejo from the plots at higher altitudes.

Afterwards we focus our efforts on the harvest of the red grapes, that was a bit more tricky. We began on the 25th of August with a harvest that have been difficult due to the different stages in terms of the grapes ripening, caused by the climatology,  that brought rain and slowed down the evolution at some areas, and therefore we had to distribute the harvest in three phases to pick the grapes in their optimum level of ripeness and finally, it could be carried out without problems, obtaining very healthy grapes along the phases.

The first phase was to harvest the grapes from plots with a previous adjustment of production that generated an excess of maturation; followed by the traditionally earlier areas. During the second phase, we were looking at the clouds thinking that the rainfalls will complicate the harvest but it the end it was not like that and we found a more balanced ripening and healthy grapes at all times; and also in the third phase in which we collected the grapes from the plots in the higher areas.

On balance, a harvest that has made us suffer but at the same time we are very satisfied of the great quality of the picked grapes. The devatting is giving us lots of freshness and we are very happy with the 2023 wines that we have seen already, with plenty of colour and structure and that you will be able to enjoy soon.
