WINE, LEAD ROLE

WINE, LEAD ROLE

nov 04, 2019

We already mentioned that many literary works or even cinema have chosen the wine as the important part of the plot; now with the rise of the TV series we see it once again  gaining protagonism in many of them.

Long ago we had Falcon Crest and its rivalries between families of vine-growers. Created in the 80s, it became a phenomenon in Spain. Many say that it was a model for the Spanish version, Gran Reserva, which had a very good reception from the audience.

The Big Bang Theory, American TV sitcom where its protagonists often share their moments with a glass of wine, getting away from the typical US taste for beer and giving the wine a higher socioeconomic status.

Downtown Abbey. Relates the affairs of  British bourgeoisie. The Crowley family, usually “sits” wine at its table conferring it a notable relevance and highlighting it as a delicacy.

Game of Thrones. This successful TV serie has the wine very present throughout its episodes. It is rare not to see some of the characters drinking wine and it has been used as an enjoyment  as well as an element  for murder.

Scandal. We see wine acquiring significance being the daily pleasure of the main character when she needs to relax after a hard working day as leading lawyer of the Crisis Management Department of the President of the United States.

And we do not forget, Sí, quedo. Webserie of three episodes available online only, produced by OIVE  (Organización Interprofesional del Vino en España) that gives wine the lead role.
