Once the harvest 2019 at Fincas de Azabache has been completed , our Technical Director, Martín Saenz, give us his vision about it.

"Each year the harvest is different and as it could not be otherwise the 2019 one has been very different from any other we had so far.

After a 2018 harvest  large in quantity and a very dry winter, a "very shy" and slow sprouting started, more advanced due to the natural regulation of the vineyards and the good temperatures during the months of February and March.

Along the spring period, temperatures and rainfall were normal, and the vineyards progressed naturally although in a bit slow and rather weak way.

A dry and hot summer, helped to avoid microorganisms to spread and provided a harvest at its highest sanitary level.

The Veraison along the same lines,  very favorable weather for a good ripening and an excellent grape quality.

On the 21st of August we started the harvest of white tempranillo, with a good gradation, acidity and great freshness desired for white wines.

At the beginning of September we picked the first red tempranillos, loose clusters, small berries, great sanity, alcoholic content over 14º with a colour and a phenolic maturity rate as few times was seen.

And of course, the wines obtained from these grapes are fruity, balanced and very concentrated, with high levels of structure and colour, excellent for ageing in oak.

So far we can say it has been the best harvest of the century, we hope that there will be more like this to come."
