ZURRACAPOTE BETTER WITH RIOJA WINE

ZURRACAPOTE BETTER WITH RIOJA WINE

ago 02, 2019

August, month for patronal feasts in many  towns in Rioja, also in our locality when very soon will start and what more typical beverage for these celebrations that the zurracapote.

We who are living in the north of Spain know it well. It is a traditional home-made drink that can be found in Navarra, Vasc County  or Castilla León and of course in La Rioja, where its origin is said to be, with wine as main ingredient as could not be otherwise.

The base for the classic recipe is red wine, here in La Rioja always of great quality of course ( or "clarete" wine in some areas ), sugar, cinnamon and lemon, with addition on little pieces of fruits such as peach although there are different variations.

Being a popular and festive drink its elaboration is normally made by the local “peñas” for their own enjoyment and of everyone that wants to pass by and taste it.

Cheers!
