INSPIRATION AND WINE
Art teacher from Michigan, Scott James Gundersen, found inspiration in summer 2017, when in his trip to Africa was fascinated by “the creativity and intelligence of the people there in giving the best use to what many of us would call rubbish”. Later in his return journey, while hi was drinking a glass of wine, he had the idea of making portraits with the bottle´s corks.
He began then with this spectacular work, for what he needs to keep huge quantities of used corks (between 50.000 and 80.000) from different kind of wines, because depending on their ageing and type, the colour that remains printed on the cork will vary and for this reason he required to contact a cork recycling company that saves thousands of corks for him.
Many have been the relevant persons that he has immortalised with corks, even the King and Queen of Spain, as a petition of our neighbour Portugal, portrait for which he needed 19.278 recycled corks.
A beautiful effort that transforms the nobility of wine in imperishable art that you can have on your walls.
