VISIT TO ONE OF OUR ORGANIC VINEYARDS
Viñedos de Aldeanueva is deeply committed to the environment. Ecological control is reinforced through innovative projects such as the use of pheromones for sexual confusion of grapevine moths—carried out over 300 hectares in collaboration with CIDA—and the testing of mushroom by-products as organic soil amendments, in partnership with the University of La Rioja. These techniques significantly reduce the use of pesticides and insecticides, aligning with long-term environmental conservation goals.
Today, we visited one of the organic vineyards belonging to the winery, covering just over 10 hectares of Tempranillo Tinto, 2 hectares of Tempranillo Blanco, and 1.5 hectares of Verdejo.
To be officially certified as organic, a vineyard must undergo a three-year process: the first year is considered “year zero,” followed by two years of conversion. From the fourth year onwards—and after passing numerous inspections and analyses—the vineyard can be registered as organic.
In organic viticulture, no synthetic chemicals can be used. Herbicides are completely prohibited, so to manage weed growth, we use a special tool called an "intercepas". However, we must accept and learn to coexist with natural weeds as part of this sustainable approach.

The vineyard we visited today produces part of the organic grapes used to make our Azabache organic wines—premium-quality wines that also respect the environment.
You can find them on our website. We offer:
• Azabache Organic Red: aged for six months in oak barrels, it features clean and powerful aromas with prominent red and black fruit notes.
• Azabache Organic Crianza: aged for twelve months in new oak barrels, this wine offers intense aromas where red fruits dominate over hints of toasted wood, spices, and balsamic notes.
