At Viñedos de Aldeanueva S.Coop. and Fincas de Azabache, we are committed to environmental preservation and constantly strive to reduce our impact.

We value the involvement of all sectors in our production chain, aiming to make our process as sustainable as possible from the field to the final customer.

We are implementing various measures to minimize our ecological footprint and promote sustainability:

    •    We employ the method of sexual confusion with pheromones to control grapevine moth, thus reducing the use of chemical insecticides effectively and with less contamination in all our vineyards. This technique is already used in 100% of our vineyards, both white and red grape varieties.

    •    By using pheromones for moth treatment, we manage to decrease the use of insecticides by approximately 1.5 liters per hectare per year, which represents 4,575 liters of insecticide annually.

    •    At our Fincas de Azabache winery, we have adopted an innovative Oresteo system that captures CO2 generated during wine fermentation and reuses it in the winemaking process, reducing our energy consumption and CO2 emissions. One of the uses of CO2 is the tank remontage during fermentation by injecting CO2 bubbles, which not only is a less aggressive process for the grapes but also eliminates the need for remontage pumps. This results in a decrease in electricity consumption and, therefore, a reduction in CO2 emitted into the atmosphere during energy production. We achieve savings of 24 kWh per white fermentation tank and 52 kWh per red fermentation tank, amounting to an average of 906 kg of CO2 per year.

    •    Since 2022, we have installed photovoltaic solar panels with an approximate capacity of 310 kWp, supplying approximately 24.5% (305,000 kW in the last year) of our total energy consumption, promoting the use of renewable energy sources.

    •    A significant portion of our production focuses on the cultivation and production of organic wine, where we are pioneers in this field (as evidenced by the first bottle of organic wine commercialized by the D.O.Ca Rioja being produced in our facilities) and holding ISO 14001 environmental certification.

With these initiatives, we reaffirm our commitment to improving the environment around us and contribute to the creation of increasingly environmentally friendly products.
